Hidden Gems: Local Businesses & Creatives You Should Know

Aesthetic Blogs

Introduction

Welcome, to Aesthetic Blogs! Thank you for making it this far. I'm nervous about starting this whole thing. But, I will have faith and believe that this will be a great idea. Just a little background, this idea came about one night while laying in bed, staring at my bedroom ceiling. As I lay there, I thought to myself "what would be a great way to support other entrepreneurs?" Then this crazy idea popped up and it lingered in my mind for a few days. I pondered on it because, I wasn't sure how I would even make this work or even start. I mean, I haven't done any networking or attended any events, whatsoever. So, where am I going to get anyone to feature on my blog ha. Let's just say "when there's a will, there's a way."

That being said, I decided to make a Facebook post asking for models. That's how I met my very first feature, Jewels Hooker.  A Dallas, Texas native, fairly new to the East Texas area. We met up at Flying H Ranch, a rustic event venue, located just 2 miles north of Tyler State Park. I was looking to take some country girl inspired photos. Jewels agreed to model and, let me just say, she's very talented! She noticed how unsure I was with poses and she helped me out a bit in the sweetest way and she wore purple. She was a team player for sure! I enjoyed working with her and hopefully continue working with her on future projects.

As I mentioned before, she's a team player and she agreed to do this interview. Questionnaire to be exact! Check her out, below you will get to learn more about Jewels. A little bit of her and modeling career.

Tell me about yourself and your aspirations as a model

I'm a full-time pet sitter and I also does photography on the side. I had never thought of modeling until one of my friends needed me to model for her photography. I realize that being a photographer you actually know a lot about modeling before you even start. You already know how to pose people and what looks good so I took that going into it. Right now it's just mostly fun hobby but if it goes somewhere else that would be awesome.

How long have you been modeling and what inspired you to pursue a career in modeling?

About 9 months now. I did my first branding shoot for a hat bar pretty quickly after I started modeling and enjoyed it so much that it made me want to start apply elsewhere

What are your strengths and as a model?

I would say my strengths are knowing poses that look good and being willing to try anything. For weakness, I would say that there's still a lot about the modeling world I don't know as I'm so new.

How do you prepare for a photoshoot?

Make sure that I have multiple outfit options and my makeup bag with me. Also, if there's a specific theme I will look at Pinterest to get ideas for a poses that would be good.

Describe your experience working with photographers, stylist, and designers.

The people that I have worked with has been fantastic. I've met so many wonderful, sweet people who love to create. It's been really inspiring.

What motivated you to pursue a career as a model?

How much I enjoyed being creative through modeling.

Where do you see your modeling career in five years?

It would be so cool to have been in a couple magazines and then able to do some really unique concepts.

How do you stay updated with fashion and modeling trends?

I follow other models and photographers on social media.

What kind of brands or projects do you want to work with?

Would love to work with companies who want to do a branding shoot for their business. Renaissance fairies or comic cons also as I love to dress up in costumes.

What do you do to prepare for a modeling job?

Research the company or photographer and get an idea of what their vision is.

How do you adapt your modeling style to meet client expectations?

Sometimes photographers prefer more model poses or sometimes they want more lifestyle everyday movements. So I try to take that into consideration when going into a photo shoot.

Describe a time you had to adapt to a sudden change during a shoot.

Once at a shoot they asked for a second outfit so I put one together on the spot with stuff I had.

Tell me about a time you had to think on your feet.

There has been a few times when I've worked with photographers who are very new and didn't know how to take charge. So I helped them learn how to pose me and give them ideas of different poses and areas we could shoot at.

How do you handle constructive criticism, challenging shoot experiences, rejection, and pressure?

I welcome it because I always want to get better at everything I'm doing. I try to take what they're saying and see how I can improve.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your modeling career so far?

That with time it gets more smooth and to go with the flow

How do you adapt your modeling style to meet client expectations?

Sometimes photographers prefer more model poses or sometimes they want more lifestyle everyday movements. So I try to take that into consideration when going into a photo shoot.
